Mexico City police hold suspect over poisoning pets in fancy parks

Police in Mexico City arrested a man suspected of poisoning a dozen or so pet dogs, and killing four, in the prosperous Condesa neighbourhood of the city, media reported on 30 October. The case - and it wasn't the first example in past years of suspected poison attacks on middle class pets - upset locals and puzzled police as it wasn't clear if this was deliberate or if the pets were dying from rat poison. The clue was in the proliferation of similar snacks or sausage bits with deadly pills inside left in places where people walked their pets, notably the México and España parks and Pushkin Garden in the nearby Roma district. Police nabbed one suspected culprit early on 30 October, thanks to eyewitness reports and camera footage, Excelsior reported. The man initially justified himself telling police a dog had attacked a relative days before.
